Science Field Trips
June 13, 2007- 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM –WILD KIDS’ SUMMER CAMP: SUMMER IN THE
SALT MARSH –  Biology-  Help us create a brand new habitat at Robinson Preserve
during this special weekday event! Your family can be part of the restoration
revolution as you work to plant salt marsh species. We’ll first learn about the habitat
through exciting hands-on activities and then get down and dirty building a home for
all the cool critters that live in the salty soil. Dress to get wet! Great for kids or adults.
Funding for this program provided by the United States Environmental Protection
Agency - Gulf of Mexico Program Office, National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration Restoration Center, Gulf of Mexico Foundation, and Tampa Bay

music, sign language, ABC's and much more with your 0-5 year old.   Creative activities using props
such as puppets, parachutes, bean bags and scarves.  No preregistration required.  Our
intergenerational program meets in Assisted Living facilities and includes "grandfriends" in the fun!

causeway. No experience necessary, kids welcomed! We provide kayaks and all gear.

June 17, 2007- Animal Science- on Father’s Day at the Zoo from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
In honor of Father’s Day, dads receive FREE admission with the purchase of a full-
priced child's admission ticket. (Child's ticket must be purchased on June 17 only.

  • Mote Aquarium invites students K-12  to extend their summer learning experience.  Bring your final
    report card showing an "A" in any science subject to received FREE Admission through June 30, 2006

  • The Florida Aquarium offers students with all A’s and B’s or those with perfect
    attendance free admission plus reduced admission for an accompanying adult.



  • DeSoto National Memorial - Environmental Science FREE- Junior Park Ranger, learn about
    mangroves,  plants, creatures and waterways on the self-led walking tour.

  • Mayaka State Park, Envionmental science- learn all about alligators, tree canopy walk, $5
    per car for up to 8 people

  • Emerson Point, Snead Island- self lead walking tour of this natural wonder.

Projects to do at home:
Science Recipes

Science Experiences for Toddlers through Kindergarten, (developed in part by
Marjorie Fondacaro, RC4K Consultant)- topics can include air, gravity, light, evaporation, water,
color mixing, friction, sound, magnets plants, animals the senses & health
  • Air - Pin Wheels, Wind Wheels- Tape strips of cloth, ribbon or crepe paper to one side of a
    plastic lid and watch them fly in the wind. Air pushers-place small light objects on a table
    (cotton balls, tissue paper, feathers) and let the children discover how to move them with
    straws, fans or empty plastic squirt bottles
  • Gravity - Downhill Racers- create an inclined plane using cardboard. Allow children to roll
    small cars or balls down the plane. Tube Slide: same concept as above except use a large card
    board tube
  • Plants - Sweet potato vines, Bean Sprouts in a bag with damp paper towel, garden on a sponge

  • Color Mixing- Food Colors in the bathtub, Read Mouse Paint, by Ellen Stoll Walsh - then mix
    primary colors to make orange, purple and green.
