Baby Sitting Courses for teens &
preteens:
Red Cross Babysitting Course - This
course provides training for young adults
starting at age 11 and includes training for
preventing accidents, providing first aid,
handling emergencies, selecting safe toys and
games, supervising. diapering and dressing
babies and feeding infants and children.
Participants should bring new-born sized doll (or
bear) for use in training. Participants should
bring a brown-bag lunch.Prerequisites: None

Manatee Memorial Hospital
Safe Sitter Classes
Pediatrics staff teaches babysitters, ages 11 and
up, safe childcare basics. Scheduled during
school breaks.
Call 746-5111, ext. 8286
Boys and girls ages 11 and up learn safe and
nurturing childcare, appropriate responses to
emergencies.  This 2 day class is $40 per
session.

Tips for locating evening and weekend
childcare/babysitter:
1) Ask your friends, neighbors and other parents to
recommend a babysitter they have used (if they are willing
to share)
2) Check out your own neighborhood. Do you have teens
who live in your neighborhood who are willing and trained to
babysit?
3) Ask your local church, synagogue --spiritual center to
recommend teens and or young adults who are responsible
baby sitters.
4) Check out the bulletin boards at MCC and USF

The local YMCA offers members a Kid's night out for children 3
and over a few times a year. They also offer 2 hours of free
childcare daily with membership (while parent is on site, using the
